The pecan kernels look similar to walnut kernels. However, the taste of pecans is much sweeter and milder. Just a handful of pecan kernels is enough to take in enough of the unsaturated fatty acids that are important for the cardiovascular system. Pecan kernels also contain many minerals and trace elements, such as calcium, magnesium, potassium, iron and zinc.
The pecan trees, which grow up to 30 m high, originate from the warm climatic zones of North America and are still cultivated there today, especially in the USA and Mexico, but also in Australia. The trees, which also provide the coveted hickory precious wood, belong to the walnut family. Although the pecan is related to the walnut, its shell, which is very thin and can be opened without a nutcracker, is more reminiscent of a very large hazelnut. The pecan kernel is more like the walnut, but tastes much sweeter.
Even among the Indians, pecan kernels were very popular foods because of their high nutritional value, and even in the early days of space travel, pecan kernels were used as an ideally composed food. In fact, pecan kernels have the highest nutritional value of all nuts and are rich in minerals and unsaturated fatty acids. Due to their delicious, sweet taste, pecans are mainly sold raw, with or without shell, and are ideal for cooking and baking, as decoration, in desserts and of course for snacking in between.
